Motivation is important when working out , but the question is: How do I get motivated?
Personally, the thing that motivates me the most is results, the more results you see the more addicted you become to the fitness world. However, sometimes results come slow and for that reason, one needs to come up with different ways to keep motivated. Here are a few tips I have for motivation:
- Set SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Timely) ex. I'm going to lose 5 pounds by October 21st by doing an hour of cardio 3 time a week and eating 500 calories less every day.
- Surround yourself with quotes that inspire you ("Today you're one step closer than yesterday")
- Have people in the industry that you look up to. It is important to know that you should never try to be/look like someone else, but at the same time, it is nice to look up to people that inspire you and teach you things. As an example, when I want motivation, I watch videos from Bret Contreras because I believe in his work and dedication.
- Take before and after pictures. It is a really good idea to take pictures before you start your program and after a duration of time because looking back at the pictures you first took and seeing the change will make you motivated! In contrast, if the change is not what you wanted, you can be motivated to push harder.
- Listen to music that puts you in the workout mood ex. I like to listen to pop or rap music when I'm training heavy
- Surround yourself with like-minded people. This can be in the form of working out with a friend or even your trainer, and it needs to be someone who doesn't set you back.
- Schedule your workout times beforehand so that they are not done last minute. This way you can get into the mentality of working out and you will be less likely to skip your workout.
- Buy clothes that make you feel like working out. Based on experience, when you train in pajamas you are way less motivated than when you wear a sports bra and leggings, even if you're just at home.
- Eating healthy will also bring you motivation because it will put you in the mindset of improving yourself.
